During the 2011 Chicago Marathon, a "Justice for Gabby‟ pledge drive was created which included a $1/per mile pledge, t-shirt sales and the overall generosity of others.
The idea behind the pledge was conceived by the family and family friend Chad Hagen. Gabby babysat for Chad‟s daughters and he decided he wanted to do something to help.
As the word spread, Matt Maguire, Ron ProKup and Jackie Liss also joined the pledge and all four runners completed the marathon in less than six hours. All of their efforts were equally vital in raising the reward amount.
The tragic loss of a beautiful 18 year old young lady named Gabby inspired me to run the Oct. 9, 2011 Chicago Marathon! Gabby was taken from us on July 22, 2011 in a hit and run accident. This happened at 9:30 PM while Gabby and two of her friends were walking to the Alpine fair in Lake Zurich, Illinois...right across from the high school that Gabby had attended.
Gabby touched so many lives in such a positive way in her 18 short years of life. I am one of many that were very fortunate to have known her, as well as my daughters, who Gabby baby sat for!
The person who is responsible for her death has not come forward.
My goal to run the Chicago Marathon 2011, is much different than the five previous Marathons that I have participated in. My purpose and goal is to raise funds for the Gabby Drozdz Foundation with 100% of the proceeds going to assist her family, Lake Zurich Police and Crime Stoppers to significantly increase the cash REWARD from $5,000 to 10,000 for any information leading to an arrest of the person who took Gabby's precious life!
Please pledge today!
I want to "thank you" in advance for your DONATION of $26.20
($1.00 for each mile of the 26.2 mile race)!!
Thank you for your support!!!
